How do I get a Vietnamese passport?

I was born in Vietnam. What documents/materials do I need to obtain a valid Vietnamese passport, and where can I get it done?

I only have a green card and my original birth certificate that says I was born in Vietnam. I have no other Vietnamese documentation, no old passports.

If you are going to direct me to the Vietnamese Embassy in the US, please tell me specifically what I should do there..

Someone please help.. =(

I have already TRIED to get US citizenship, but I was told I had to wait a few more years in order to qualify since I received my green card in 2006.. -__- Also, I am not returning to Vietnam. I need a passport to travel out of the country legally.

I would contact an attorney in the Vietamese community. Having been born in Vietnam makes you a Viet citizen. Having a green card does not make you an American citizen, although you may still qualify for an U.S. passport.

Go ask any Vietnamese working in a Pho restaurant and they'll be happy to tell you how you can go back to your home country. Most of them don't speak English anyways, for they were refugees from the Vietnam War. I'm sure they want to go back to Vietnam too. You can find lots of help there. Good luck!
